When and Where to Paddle

Paddling practice begins in late April through October and is held at Pasco's Chiawana Park every Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., and Monday and Thursday evenings at 5:45 p.m. Rigging the canoes takes around 15 minutes--everyone is encouraged to arrive on time to help rig the canoes.

Directions to Pasco's Chiawana Park

From Richland:
Follow I-182 to the Road 100 exit. Turn Right and go to WEST Court Street, turn left on to WEST Court Street.  Proceed to NORTH Road 88 and turn right on to Chiawana Drive.

From Kennewick/Pasco:
Follow Court Street on to Road 84.  Proceed to NORTH Road 84 and then on to WEST Court Street until you come to NORTH Road 88, turn left on to Chiawana Drive.

Want to Paddle?

All interested in outrigger canoe paddling are invited to join us at Pasco's Chiawana Park for practice. You can enjoy up to three complimentary practice sessions, giving you ample opportunity to decide if this sport is for you. We offer three types of memberships:

* Individual - $140 per year.

* Patron - $70 per year. This is for the "recreational paddler" who does not want to participate in races. During practice sessions you will be seated after the racing members (those with individual membership).

* Family - $280 per year. This covers all who wish to paddle within the same family, living in the same household (e.g., Husband, Wife, Daughter).

Your dues help cover the cost and maintenance of our three outrigger canoes, trailer, and transporting the canoes to the races. Dues do not, however, include your race fees, lodging or transportation to races.

Insurance is required for all paddlers, and available through USA Canoe and Kayak. A yearly membership costs $55 and covers you at all paddling-related activities (practices and races).

Another initial expense to consider is your paddle. Paddle styles can affect your stroke, and because we're all working on a uniform stroke, it is encouraged we all have the same type of paddle. Our club recommends the Kialoa paddle, and each year we make a club order.

Because we all have unique personal circumstances, your membership allows you to decide how much time you devote to the sport, which includes practice time on the water, attending races, or participating in club functions. Keep in mind, however, that the coach uses the three A's to determine race seating: Attitude, Ability, and Attendance.
